JANUARY 28 GRASSHOPPER MENTALITY

Yesterday we talked about how unbelief will prevent you from fulfilling your destiny.  In addition to unbelief, there is another powerful spiritual force that will shut you out of God’s promises.  That force is the spirit of fear.

When Israel heard the negative report of the spies, they developed “Grasshopper mentality” which kept them out of the promised land.  They saw the enemy as a giant and themselves as grasshoppers and they were afraid to enter in to claim their rightful possessions  (Numbers 13:33).

One of the first things God said to Abraham when sharing the provisions of  this covenant with him was “Fear not.”  (Genesis 15:1). God knew that these promises were so great that Abraham might be fearful at their very magnitude.

Fear is a spirit that Satan uses to torment, control, dominate, oppress, and bind God's people.  Paul told Timothy, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”  (2 Timothy 1:7).

Through fear and unbelief, Israel disobeyed God and failed to take possession of their inheritance.  They forfeited their covenant promises and returned to wander in the wilderness for forty years. Every person twenty years of age and older died in the wilderness with the exception of Moses, Joshua, and Caleb.

Many believers do not realize that the covenant promises of Abraham belong to them.  Not knowing what is legally theirs, they have forfeited their covenant rights and privileges simply because they did not claim them.  Others know the terms of the covenant, but because of unbelief or fear they refuse to claim them.  Both responses will shut you out of your Promised Land and abort your destiny.

What about you?  Like the children of Israel, have you failed to take possession of your inheritance?  Did you once arrive at the border of your destiny, only to turn back into the wilderness?  No more!

Through the revelation you are receiving, you are learning what is rightfully yours.  It is time for you to step across the border and claim your inheritance in Christ.
